New location.

April 14th, 2009

So this is my new blog location. I’ve finally dragged my butt off the chair and integrated wordpress and done some html.

Vigeland Sculpture Park, Munch museum and Oslo Opera Building.

April 11th, 2009

Some photos from last Sunday when we went to Vigeland Sculpture Park. One of the famous attractions of Oslo. The parks features around 200 bronze and garnite sculptures created by Gustav Vigeland.

The park.

One of my favorite sculptures. I love the childs’ expression! :D

Are we being chased by giant dinosaurs from Jurassic Park now?

After that we made a quick trip to the famous Munch Museum, featuring arts and paintings by Edvard Munch.

Famous “Scream”.

One of my favorites. So pretty.

Scream cakes. Heh.

Today me and my family went to take a look at the Oslo Opera Building, and eat at Fridays.

Pretty dog.

What we had for breakfast today.

Home made fried Wontons.

Chinese vegetable rice soup–thing.

Some stuff that I bought when in London.

From left to right: Gladiator sandals from Topshop; Shiseido skincare; Calendar from Topshop; Paddington bear.

Random stuff.

Some japanese noodle packs, because I’m like my father who LOVES noodles.

London Easter 2009.

April 10th, 2009

Hi lovelies! How have you been?? I’m so sorry that’s it’s been more than a week since I’ve made an update. Last week was pretty hectic, and this week I was in London with my friend Hilde!! From Monday night to Thursday night. I’m going to dedicate this whole post to the wonders and little and bigs of this trip, and there will be maaaaany photos! So try and stay with me :D I’ve got thousands of photos on my dSLR and my compact camera, and my friend’s probably got two thousands of photos! Haha! But I’m too lazy to upload them all here, even though there’s so much more I want to tell you guys and share with you! But I’m just too lazy, exhausted and tired from the trip.

Monday
We arrived London Heathrow around 5 pm. Spent the day getting to know the ”neighborhood” and the shops and restaurants nearby. By neighborhood I mean the Queensway, Bayswater and Lancaster Gate area.

We just arrived from London Heathrow, and are getting settled before going out. I also felt like having long hair for one day :) Like one of my friends says: “It looks like I’m having aids when I’m going with a beanie on my head with short hair”. True true.

Hotel we stayed at. London Elizabeth Hotel. It was supernice! Prettier than I had imagined by far!

Queensway at night. Photo taken from Pizza Hut.

The tiny pizza from Pizza Hut made my night ♥

From Marks & Spencer (my favorite grocery store because of the design and quality!) at Whiteleys at Queensway Road.

ANNA’S! ♥ Super tasty cappuccino biscuits!

Tuesday
Plan for the day: Shopping! Oxford/Bond Street, Piccadilly Circus, Soho, Chinatown and The National Gallery.

We arrived at Oxford (centrum) before the stores had even opened! Haha~ Our first stop was Primarks at Bond Street.

We stopped by a Disney store. Super cute!

We ate at a restaurant that my friend recommended me, and that we saw EVERYWHERE we went, called Garfunkel’s.

We ordered Traditional English Breakfast because we were in England ♥

A visit to one of the worlds biggest toyshops is a must! Hamleys!

So many Paddington Bears! I bought one!

Took the Underground to Piccadilly Circus. You can see a statue of The Angel of Christian Charity, Eros in the background (left).

Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! at Piccadilly Circus.

CHINATOWN! One of my favorite places in London! Yes I know, I’m such a sucker.

Reminded me so much of the anime movie “Grave of the Fireflies”.

We made a visit to The National Gallery, even though the plan was to visit all the museums and galleries at Thursday (the day after). But since we were nearby, we thought we might as well drop by. Amazing art and paintings! Breathtaking.

Wednesday
Plan: Tate Modern, Design Museum and The Phantom of the Opera. I had planned to go to the British Museum, StolenSpace Gallery and maybe the National Portrait Gallery and Shakespear’s Globe, but meh, time didn’t exactly coorporate.. or our legs for that matter. But I’m more than satisfied with what we got out of the day.

On our way to Tate Modern: International modern and contemporary art.

Tate Modern building.

Entrance to one of the sections. We weren’t allowed to take photos inside.

Exhibition adverts.

We walked all the way from Tate Modern to Design Museum. On the way we saw London Bridge, Millennium Bridge and St. Paul’s Cathedral. That’s the London Bridge in the photo there.

Design Museum.

The Opera building in Oslo!

Later on the day we decided to eat at a little cozy restaurant called Rainforest Café back around the Piccadilly/Chinatown/Soho area.

Definitely the highlight of the trip- The musical, The Phantom of the Opera at her Majesty’s Theatre! I was so excited at first that I was about to puke! Haha! The musical was PERFECT!

Thursday (day of departure)
We didn’t want to stress, so we made a what we thought would be a simply and delightful walk in Hyde Park, and well, which ended up taking more than an hour before we reached the other end. Haha, but it was overall okay, even though the trip killed our legs. Later we went to London’s biggest department store, Harrods, and after that again we took the bus around Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens to Notting Hill Gate and walked rest of the way back to Queensway. Did some last minute shopping, enjoyed noodle, sushi and teriyaki at a japanese restaurant called Saki and a Strawberry tart and Cheesecake at Patisserie Valerie.

Hyde Park, south east end.

Some animals we saw that day. :D I love taking photos of cute little animals!

The squirrels in Hyde Park was running so fast that I had a really hard time taking photos of them :P

Harrods.

I have so much more to tell you about, but for now I better get to bed. I’ve spent an hour uploading, editing and making this post, so yeah. I’ll probably make a post about my trip to the Munch museum (here in Oslo last week) and a a couple of photos of what I bought in London sometimes later this week if I feel like it and if any of you would be interested in knowing :)

Bye for now~

Sora.

March 28th, 2009

This week has been crappy and boring. And so are my studies. I’m so sick of everything right now, and just really need that easterbreak. It began snowing again yesterday, which made my week worse.

I have also been thinking about taking a degree in something else after I’m finished with my bachelor. I’m not sure if I want to take a masters degree in what I’m doing now after all. I thought I was so sure, and thought that I was one of the few rock steady people when it came to academic decisions. I was so sure about my academic path you know. Many of the older students that I’ve been talking to, told me that they’ve changed directions several times during their studies. Some would start off with chemistry, and end up graduating with a post-doc degree in history or psychology or something like that. But even though I’ve been thinking about it a lot, doesn’t mean I’ll do it for sure. I have decided to finish my bachelor and then see. I’m still young, so everything should be fine. I just need to learn to relax and let fate decide sometimes. I’ve been thinking about bachelor in bioengineer, bachelor in biotechnology and chemistry (even though my knowledge in chem is around zero), or a year with acting or filming.

While I was walking to class yesterday at 7 am, there was a snow storm outside, and I had the hood on my jacket over my head. I noticed that I kept striving to see what was up ahead all the time, my destination, the school building, instead of focusing on the road right in front of me and just move one foot in front of another. That was when I realized something-This experience (or walk :p) made me think of how my life is right now. How I keep striving to see what’s in the future all the time, without even considering stopping and taking a look at my life in the present. Quite a precise analogy. But seriously, what am I rushing for??? I’ve always been like this. If there’s a goal given to me, I’ll keep focusing on nothing else but reaching that goal. I won’t even notice the things I encounter on the way to the finish line. I really hate that part of me. I could die tomorrow, and for what? Without even achieving anything or having lived! I’m so naive sometimes.

I’ve been listening to The Fray’s latest album, called “The Fray”. I downloaded it two months ago or something, but when I listened to it, I didn’t like it at all. Sometimes it takes me a couple of “listens” before I truly find the beauty in songs. The Fray also reminds me of the first time I heard about them- in London summer 2006. Well look at that, I’m going to London in a week! The Fray + London = something special to me ♥

I received my letter from my penpal Chung! ♥ It’s so nice reading, writing and receiving letters! And especially from other parts of this great world! If anyone’s interested in a new penpal friend, contact me! ♥

Things I Love

Planning vacations: I love choosing and planning trips! What to do, where to go, what to watch and so on! I’ve been picking out a couple of places and things I want to do in London this easterbreak! Next weekend I’ll be continuing my planning! I also love those pocket guides! ♥

The Fray: Love love love. Download (or buy!) their two albums “How To Save A Life (2005)” and “The Fray (2009)”. Genre: Rock/pop with a touch of piano and a beautiful voice.

Sunny days: Yes, I’m so tired of snow and cold now! The sun has constantly been peaking nervously from behind the clouds lately, and I love greeting her when she shows up! I will automatically look up at the clear blue sky, take a deep breath of the fresh but yet a bit chilly air and smile at the sun.

Looking up at the sky: Try it out sometimes! I find it stressful living in a big city sometimes, where everything go so fast! People wake up at 6, go to work, plans, business, children, school, sleep, and all over again. Sometimes I just feel like that person you see in films, standing in the middle of a fast moving crowd. It’s great to move your head 100-130 degrees (try that, and not 90!) backwards and just look at the blue skies and sun and realize how beautiful it really is. The sky deserves more attention than people are giving it today. The sky and clouds has been looking at and over us for such a long time. I think now’s the time for us to look at the sky.

I will now ask you to lend 4 minutes and listen to this beautiful song while taking a look at all the amazing photos I’ve posted below. Isn’t it nice? Looking at the sky in photos can’t compare to looking at the sky in real life, so be sure to do that the next time you’re outside. :)

Shonen.

March 22nd, 2009

Yesterday was chill. In the morning I cleaned the house, did the laundry and various house chores that I felt had to be done. Later on the day I met up with a friend of mine and we went to eat at a Indian restaurant called “Indian House”. The food wasn’t that great, but the reason why we went there was because I had this 20% off coupon.

Here’s some random photos because I thought my last post contained a bit too much text? Haha :P Hadn’t picked up my camera in a while, so it was nice taking some photos yesterday. So please enjoy and I’ll see you guys in a bit :)

Weather balloon that I saw on my way to the underground!

We got our invoice with this box! We had no clue what it was, and thought 1) some sort of weird tradition to deliver all receipts in a box 2) to eat? 3) for us to put our money in the box and give back to them?? Haha, we had a blast trying to find out what it was. We ended up asking the waiter, and she said it was for eating and killing garlic smells in your mouth :P It wasn’t that tasty. We felt like birds.

I didn’t know my hair was this short on the sides before I took this picture a couple of days ago :O

Mr.Children with 少年 (Shonen). My drug right now ♥

Music still lingering in my ears.

March 21st, 2009

Hi people. How are you?

I REALLY don’t feel like blogging right now, but when I checked my blog, I noticed that my last entry was made more than a week ago, so I sort of feel obliged, not only to you, but also to myself, to share the little and bigs, the ups and downs of this week.

So, this week has probably been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had in a while. Two, which we call it “counting” reports and one exam. Stress. I’ve worked my ASS off this week, and I’m mentally so exhausted- but all that was made up for by the concert yesterday night and the clubbing.

(Picture from Flickr)

Yesterday I went to Play! A Video Game Symphony here in Oslo. In the end I was left speechless! The orchestra was simply breathtaking! I think they could have chosen another hall than a gym hall, since the acoustics there isn’t the best suitable for a symphony maybe, but never the less, the concert was amazing!! The “Play!” orchestra is world known and plays songs from video games such as Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Sonic the Hedgehog (my childhood favorite!!) and more. If you have heard any of the songs from those video games, then you know how amazing they are and how amazingly talented the composers are as well.

They had this big screen over the band where clips from different video games was shown. I had a tendency to look at the screen all the time, but then I thought, I’m not here to watch some video game clips on a huge screen. I can go home and do that on YouTube. So I focused on the band, and realizing that the beautiful melodies lingering in my ears were actually played LIVE by so many people, made me simple adore and respect each and one of them to be able to produce something SO beautiful! Both the orchestra and the choir! They were in total harmony and seeing every stroke and blow that was producing these dazzling tunes, simply left me amazed. It was like listening to a CD track you know! So many musicians and instruments and no flaws at all! It was like a pearl on a string! I especially loved the music played from the video games Castlevania, The Legend of Zelda, Battlefield, Mario, Kingdom Hearts and ofcourse “One-winged Angel” from Final Fantasy VII.

One of my favorite plays by the Play! Orchestra from one of my all-time favorite video games, Kingdom Hearts. This video is not mine, and it’s recorded from a concert in Toronto in 2006. You can’t actually see anything happening in the front there, but listen to the music. Isn’t it just majestical?? And listening to it live was even better. Thinking that THIS music is actually produced by hundreds of people right in front of you- if that doesn’t leave you amazed, then I don’t know what will :p It’s so beautiful from 1:47-ish. You’ve GOT to listen to it!

I had slept for 4-5 hours maybe the night before, and had been up for more than 20 hours, including having had a exam in Quantum Physics earlier in the day. I was so tired and really wanted to go home, but then I met some friends of mine and they invited me down town to take a drink, and I simply couldn’t say no! It was nice talking to my old friend again over a glass of beer!

I arrived at home around 2 am, and for some reason I didn’t feel so sleepy anymore and decided to finish watching episode 6 of 14 Sai no Haha (14 Years Old Mother) that had finished downloading. I must say I haven’t watched such a good drama in a long time! It’s very sad, yet strongly heartfelt. I prefer real-life drama series rather than drama series about girl meets boy, girl definitely gets boy dramas. Meh. But 14 Sai no haha is definitely a drama I highly recommend!

The video below is a video of the opening of 14 Sai no Haha. I’m currently in love with the song played, called Shirushi by Mr.Children. The video itself is not very interesting, but lend 2 minutes and listen to the beautiful song :)

Sidenotes:
- I’m going to London for 4 days during the easterbreak! And I’m going to watch my favorite musical of all time The Phantom of the Opera at “Her Majesty’s Theatre” at Haymarket! Digging up songs from the movie from 2006 just made me want to experience the real thing even more!
- All the paperwork for exchange is now done! All I’m waiting for the next few months is the final acceptation letter from Hong Kong! I’m so excited!
- I went to the dentists yesterday and they told me that if I wanted to remove my wisdom teeth, I had to be referred to a dentist specialized in extractions of teeth, because the bottom two of mine were placed in a position 80-90 degrees to the rest of my teeth. Simply said, almost going horizontal while the rest of my teeth are going vertical. Yeah, so nice. The price scared me off, so for now I’m putting it on hold, even though she recommended me to get them extracted asap because of the high risks of my second lasts (which is not the wisdom teeth) getting infected my bacteria caused by my wisdom teeth. That’s just GREAT! I had like 4 holes as well. I ALWAYS have holes in my teeth! Every god damn year I end up with 4-5 holes. I really envy people who never get holes.

Gone cropped.

March 12th, 2009

Howdy!? Thursdays are my “days off”, so I thought I should make a post about my new haircut! I brought a picture of Ella Chen (girl to the far left) and told them to cut my hair like hers. But I think it sort of ended up shorter? AND THEY TOTALLY DESTROYED MY BANGS~! Something just ALWAYS have to go wrong! :P

One more.

Oh, and two of my friends just got their own blogs. So I’m sort of promoting their blogs! They’re all in norwegian, but check them out anyways for you who want to!

Bye for now~ ♥

Gifts, good friends and Things I Love.

March 7th, 2009

Finally the long-awaited weekend has come! What a delight! This week has definitely been exhausting, like every other week. Tons of school-work to do, report dead-lines, exercise and socializing.

I met my friend Kaja on Monday or Tuesday. Can’t remember, I’m getting old. HAHA. No, not really. But anyways, it was wonderful to see one of my best friends again! She’s currently studying Russian in Bergen (2nd biggest city in Norway), a city 8 hours from Oslo by train, so yeah, it’s not exactly nearby. She was on her way to some other city, so she only stopped by in Oslo for an hour. We met up and ate at Burger King and had a wonderful chat :)

Two of my other friends came back from Asia a week ago, and yesterday I met both of them, and I got presents! From my friend I got a Zipper magazine (she knows how much I love asian fashion mags ♥) and one of the cutest and fatest panda bears I’ve ever seen! ♥ I LOVE IT~! From Michael, a friend who had been studying in Japan for the last couple of months, brought some japanese candy to me! Some from Tokyo and some from the Kansai Airport! I LOVE airports!!

Michael and I met up after my class in experimental physics and we ate and talked for 2 hours at the campus canteena. Also met someone who I really didn’t except to see or wanted to see. Made my heart jump for a second there. Hopefully he didn’t see me.

Later yesterday I met Nene down town and we went to watch one of the best movies I’ve seen lately, Watchmen. A not-so-typical super hero movie based on the comic book series with the same name by Alan Moore. Watching action kick ass movies at the cinema seriously tops watching them on television. The sound effects just leaves you completely breathless!! After the movies we went to eat kebab at a nearby restaurant and talked about everything and nothing.

Also bought a pillow case from H&M HOME designed by the talented Liselotte Watkins.

Three movies I’d like to see this spring:
Everlasting Moments: A swedish movie set in the early 1900s. About a female photographer, her life, love, loss and passion for photography.
TOKYO: A cult film. Dark, twisted and original. The darker corners of the city Tokyo seen through three directors eyes.
UP: Because I love Pixar Animations

Things I Love

Pullman: Ever since I first listened to the song, ”So Breaks Yesterday” by Pullman, from Audrey Kawasaki’s journal [Right click and save to d/l from her blog], I’ve fallen in love with Pullman’s beautifully composed pure-acoustic songs.

Summer: Sandals, skirts and spaghetti-tops, ice cream, beach, shopping, sunglasses, friends, vacation, bars, drinks and gossip! God I miss summer!

Other stuff I love: Reminiscing with old friends at cafès; Fashion magazines like Nylon, Elle, Zipper, Cutie & Nonno; Everything heart-shaped; Everything red and pink; Indie, B and Cult movies; Feel-good dreams; Blogging; Nice people; Cute bakeries & cupcakes; Jason Mraz’ ”The Remedy”; Watching a good film on a saturday night in the sofa with candy and cocoa

Study-eating.

March 5th, 2009

(Photo @ Flickr)

Harro, my name’s Anna and I’m suffering from the so called, study-eating disorder.

There’s one thing about me that bugs me a lot! Yes, I eat a lot when I’m studying. I AM STUDY-EATING! I eat and eat and eat and eat! I never eat this much when I’m not studying. Does this ever happen to you guys???! When I’m studying (or watching television) I can eat for like 8 hours non-stop. It can go something like this: I find myself a package of chips, I start to eat form the bag. 15 minutes later I’m bored of chips, and find myself some grapes instead. When I’m sick of grapes and have eaten half of the box, I’m bored and I find something else to eat. I make myself a cup of cocoa, and grab the candy-bag from one of the shelves. After 10-20 pieces of chocolate I put the bag back, and eat some rice with soya instead. Then some bread, then an apple, an orange and WOW LOOK AT THE TIME, it’s time for dinner! AND ALL THIS WHEN I’M NOT EVEN HUNGRY. It’s a freaggin’ disease! No, but seriously, I have to stop it. I feel as if I can’t focus when I’m NOT chewing on SOMETHING when I’m studying! :p Goodness!

I can’t focus on my papers. I need a break. NAO! Luckily easterbreak’s only a month away.

Ooo~! And, I bought Oreo Mini’s!! I found them at the top of a shelf at the convenience store yesterday, and just HAD to buy them!!! :D :D Now they’re all in my pwetty pink stomach! 8D God, am I totally contradicting myself or what?!!

Just a small out-of-nowhere update because I feel as if I don’t update enough..

Chri’s got a competition over at her blog. It’s in norwegian, but if you non-norwegians want to join as well, feel free to do so :D She’s basically asking you to make a link to her site from your site. Period. :p She’s also talking about (as you can see in the entry-title) how not to judge a blog by it’s header. So visit her cool blog and take a look at her splendid photos by clicking -> here <-
